All-Star
Q: My child made the All-Star team this fall. We can't practice both nights of the week. Can we attend only one practice per week and keep our spot on the team?
A: While it is beneficial to attend all the practice sessions, we understand that your child can’t always make it. The All-Star program is a demanding program that builds a player’s skill as well as develops the team as a cohesive unit. With that in mind, we have set a 75% attendance rate as the minimum standard for players. The team coach can work with you on your attendance expectations. Ultimately, it is the coach’s decision, so please check with your team’s coach directly. All-Star is a high performance level, so please understand the requirements before committing to it.
Q: My child’s All-Star coach agreed to allow us to miss several practice sessions and will work with us to ensure our athlete develops as required to play at the All-Star level. Because we are not attending all the practice sessions, do I get a reduced rate or a refund?
A: No. There is no reduced rate for All-Star. While you may be attending fewer than the offered practice sessions, the option for you to attend all the sessions is still there. The club must pay for the winter field time we have booked, and the cost of the All-Star program is broken down over the number of registered players individually. We can’t offer a “drop-in fee” style practice session and be able to run the program.
Q: Are there other payment options than those set up in the RAMP system?
A: We strive to keep our programs at a low cost to our club members. Unfortunately, we must set a standard payment plan to ensure appropriate cash flow to meet our obligations such as field time, uniform costs, salaries, association fees and equipment. We will work with individuals who require financial assistance.
Q: Is travel required for my child's team?
A: At times, teams from outside the Avalon area register to play in the league. Clubs like CBN, Burin Peninsula Soccer Association, Corner Brook United, etc. If registered for the league, they are required to travel here, just as our team may need to go over there to play some matches. Some tournaments and national/international travel opportunities may be part of the All-Star program, but those are brought to the teams' attention in advance so they can choose to participate or not based on their interest.
